  • David Lavoie Obituary
    Updated On: May 03, 2019

David Philip Lavoie of New Bedford died peacefully at home on April 1, 2019 at the age of 57 surrounded by his loving wife Monique and family.

Dave was born on October 27, 1961 to Philip and Irene Lavoie.  He grew up in South Dartmouth MA and lived his entire life in the New Bedford area.  A graduate of Dartmouth High School, and New England Institute of Technology, he worked for  Verizon for 34 years as a senior splice technician and was a proud member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #2322.

Dave had a zest for life and will be remembered for his big smile and joyful personality.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and drums and was a member of many rock bands.  He was always happy to play for charity benefits including ones for September 11 and the Special Olympics.

An avid fisherman, he and his first mate could often be found fishing Wing’s Neck on his Grady White.  He loved collecting comic books, rare coins, license plates and guitars.  Dave was an exuberant sports fan cheering on his Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics.

He is survived by his parents Philip and Irene Lavoie of South Dartmouth, and his sons Tom and Shaun Lavoie of Mattapoisett.  He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Monique (Corriveau), her son Zachary Sloane, his wife Diona, and their child Autumn and her daughter Ashley Sloane and her son Parker.  He was the brother of Theresa Moniz and her husband Michael of Acushnet, Steven Lavoie and his wife Julie of Dartmouth, and the late James Lavoie and his wife Lisa from Billerica.  He was a favorite uncle of Peter, Haley, Rain, Kayla and Isabel.

The entire Lavoie family would like to thank his fabulous friends and coworkers who supported them throughout his brave battle with cancer.  A special thanks to the committee who held the “Do It for Dave” benefit.  We are forever grateful for your support.

A private burial will be held at the South Dartmouth Cemetery on April 26th at 2:00 p.m.  A celebration of his life will be held on April 28th at 2:00 pm at the Lakeville Eagles, 217 County Street.
